Portolio of David Elkan-Gonzalez
For three consecutive summers I worked as an IT Engineering Intern and Cisco Systems. The IT Engineering team focuses on building tools that help the rest of the company work more effectively. One of the best aspects of this internship was the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of individuals on a proffeessional level. I worked with both technical and non-technical individuals of many backgrounds and skillsets. I also had the opportunity to work with individuals from other Cisco locations such as England and India. My projects at Cisco varied from year to year and included veteran recruitment, video production and editing, app development, web development, design, and even some quadcopter development.

This web tool I worked on helped automate security scans on projects. It was written utilizing Angular JS.

This mock-up was made to demonstrate a tool proposal I came up with along with another intern.
Perhaps my most significant project was building a proof of concept tool for server maintainence alerts. At Cisco servers may occasionally crash or be taken down for maintenance or other reasons. When this happens any projects that are hosted on that server will unusable. My manager wished to make a tool that would track scheduled maintanence of a server, as well any unscheduled maintenance and crashes. Servers would be cataloged and would track which projects they are hosting, and users would be able to create a profile where they indicate which projects they care about or are responsible for. When a server issue or maintenance will impact a project a user is interested in, they can recieve email alerts. In order to convince the higher-ups to commit developers to the project he needed a proof of concept, but did not have the resources to develop one. So he requested an intern. Over the course of a summer I (as that intern) developed a prototype tool using live data from servers. I also added a helpful UI for manually tracking server status. Towards the end of the summer I presented my work and the utility of the tool, which was extremely well recieved and was awarded the developer time my manager desired.
